Day 26 of 40 Days of Discipleship: The gentle whisper

1 Kings 19:12-13
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
How have you perceived the presence of God this week? The prophet Elijah was very discouraged and he needed to hear from God. The Scriptures said that an earthquake and fire and mighty wind passed by but Elijah could not hear God in those things. Then there was a still, small voice that Elijah heard God speaking to him. God asked him, ‘What was he doing there?’ And Elijah explained himself and received fresh instructions. Isn’t it amazing that God asks us questions to help us think and to help us to be open to new ideas? Sometimes as we read, it is only a whisper, a nudge, a new thought or question. Sometimes it is connecting an earlier thought to a new idea. Sometimes it is by writing something down or explaining your thought to another person that helps you understand what God is saying.
