Day 21 of 40 Days of Discipleship: Why harvest workers?

Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Harvesting crops is good because it feeds people. This type of work can be hot and tiring but it has a great reward. When we pray for harvest workers, Jesus said to ask God to cast or thrust them into the harvest. This is the same verb used to cast out demons. It is violent and messy. It is abrupt and sudden. We don’t ease into it. We are fired into the harvest. We don’t wade into the shallow end. We jump off the deep end. This is something we can’t necessarily control or manage. It happens to us. So keep your eyes open. You may find that you are fired into a whole new situation where you stop being a consumer of religious truth and start to desperately hang on to God, way out of your comfort zone. This is a risky prayer but as we pray for harvest workers, the Lord invites us to say like Isaiah, “Here am I , send me!”
